Welcome to Write Travel. Originally from the UK and today living in beautiful Cape Town, I have been a guidebook author and travel writer for more than two decades. I am passionate about exploring, experiencing other cultures, and trotting around the globe gathering information and advice for fellow travellers. And by writing inspiring stories, helping them to choose where to go and what to see and do, and create their own dream trips.
I’ve authored, updated or fact-checked more than 70 guidebooks for UK and US publishers including Bradt Guides, Footprint, Rough Guides, Insight Guides, DK Eyewitness, Frommer's and Fodor's Travel. Additionally I am a regular contributor to big-name travel magazines such as Travel Africa and Wanderlust, contributed to various airline inflight publications and product brochures, and numerous tourism websites including Travel Weekly, the biggest resource for travel agents in the US, and SafariBookings, the largest African safari booking website.
I am an especially respected expert on Africa, which all started out in the 1990s when I worked as a tour leader on overland trucks, taking groups on exciting trips across the continent as well as the Middle East and Turkey. It also led to my writing career as I devised and wrote itineraries and produced brochures and trip copy. I still love to drive Africa’s highways and byways and to date have explored 20 fascinating countries and more than 100 national parks and game reserves. I’m now very knowledgeable about Africa’s wonderful wildlife and very familiar with the safari tourism industry. Just in Africa, I’m the author and contributor of guidebooks on South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Egypt and Morocco.
I’ve also been fortunate to visit countless other destinations too and have written about places as diverse as Georgia and Mozambique, Istanbul and Lusaka, and Marrakesh and Miami. My other area of particular expertise and passion is the Caribbean, where I have visited more than 20 islands from Anguilla to Tobago. I've written many travel features and authored several guidebook titles covering most of the Lesser Antilles arc of stunning islands including the popular tourist hot-spots like Antigua, St Lucia and Barbados.
